Course Outline

Before you go on a dive, you should discuss and review the following to create a comprehensive and safe dive plan.

  1. Dive conditions (weather, surface conditions, tides, currents)
  2. Exit and entry points and any special skills needed
  3. Which route to follow
  4. Maximum dive time and depth limits, minimum breathing gas pressure to turn the dive and to surface with
  5. Communications (hand, written, and on surface)
  6. How to stay together
  7. What to do if you get separated
  8. Lost buddy or dive professional procedures
    1. Search for one minute.
    2. If you are unable to locate your buddy or become separated from the dive professional and the rest of the group, ascend slowly, rotating and looking around.
    3. Reunite at the surface.
  9. Complete a dive plan and hand it to the surface supervisor.
