Course Outline

Divers very rarely suffer attacks from aquatic animals. If any of the larger marine animals are provoked, they certainly can become potentially dangerous. Years of misinformation on television and in the movies have given many people an unwarranted fear of our oceans’ inhabitants.

The timid octopus, gentle orca, and giant squid have all been portrayed as terrors of the deep! The reality is that none of them are a threat to humans. Even the shark, the most dreaded of all sea predators, is not quite the terror that the Hollywood movie industry would have us believe.

Animals may seem aggressive, but actually, they are frightened and are only protecting themselves. For example, if you actively disturb and touch animals, it is possible that they might bite you. The animal is only being defensive!
